Description

**C&R FFL OK**

The Smith & Wesson Model 1917 is a United States Army revolver chambered in .45 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) caliber. It was produced during World War I to supplement insufficient stocks of M1911 semi-automatic pistols.

The Model 1917 revolver was a modification of Smith & Wesson’s .44 Hand Ejector Model of 1908, with alterations to accept the .45 ACP cartridge using half-moon clips to hold the rimless cartridges in position in the cylinder. These revolvers served alongside the Colt M1911 pistol and were issued to U.S. Army and Marine Corps units during World War I.

After the war, many Model 1917 revolvers were sold as surplus and found their way into civilian hands. They are well-regarded for their robust construction and reliability, and they hold a significant place in the history of American firearms development.
